Community of Science (COS) Databases
The University of Alberta subscribes to a fully searchable database called the Community of Science (COS). Results of COS searches can be printed out directly from a web browser, or relevant sections can be downloaded and printed in various formats. COS is easy to search, and there are instructions available online.
What's available on COS?
Funding Opportunities Database: information on more than 22,000 funding agencies including Canadian agencies and many others that fund research in Canada.
Funding Alerts: COS Funding Alert is a personalized electronic notification service of funding information. COS Funding Alert subscribers receive a weekly e-mail with a customized list of funding opportunities based on previously specified criteria provided by the individual COS members.
COS Funding Alert can also be added to a personal homepage that hosts a "Really Simple Syndication" (RSS) feed like Google or My Yahoo.
Research Expertise: the research interests of scientists and scholars at more than 1,300 research institutions from around the world. More than 1,500 U of A researchers have described their expertise and interests in COS and these records are available for searching.
The U of A encourages researchers to submit their research profiles to stimulate potential collaborations or sponsorship. COS's online CV-management tools are useful for applying to US agencies.
